Safety Guide

Kitesurf Nation helps people find and share kitesurf boards, surfboards, foil boards, SUP boards, windsurf boards, and related watersports equipment.

This Safety Guide is a practical checklist for users. It does not replace our Terms of Use. Kitesurfing, surfing, foiling, windsurfing, SUP, and other watersports can involve serious risk. Always use your own judgment and do not use equipment or ride in conditions beyond your ability.

1. Before you contact an owner

Before messaging an owner, read the listing carefully.

Check:

• Board type, size, brand, model, and condition.
• Photos of the board or equipment.
• Pickup location.
• Price and currency.
• Description and any special notes.
• What is included and not included.

Ask the owner about anything unclear before arranging pickup.

Useful questions to ask:

• Are there any cracks, repairs, leaks, soft spots, delamination, or other damage?
• Are fins, straps, handle, screws, leash, board bag, foil parts, or other accessories included?
• Is the board suitable for my skill level and intended conditions?
• What happens if the board is damaged, lost, returned late, or not returned?
• Is a deposit required?
• What payment method do you prefer?
• Where and when should pickup and return happen?

2. Before arranging pickup

Agree clearly with the other user before meeting.

Confirm:

• Exact equipment included.
• Pickup time and place.
• Return time and place.
• Price and currency.
• Payment method.
• Deposit amount, if any.
• Damage, loss, theft, late return, and cleaning responsibility.
• What happens if weather or local conditions are unsafe.
• Whether you will take photos or video before and after use.

Kitesurf Nation does not currently process payments, bookings, deposits, refunds, or damage claims. These arrangements are made directly between users.

3. Meeting safely

Use common sense when meeting another user.

We recommend:

• Meet in a safe public place.
• Avoid private home addresses where possible.
• Choose places such as beaches, stations, marinas, shops, or landmarks.
• Tell someone where you are going if needed.
• Do not share unnecessary personal information.
• Do not continue if the situation feels unsafe or suspicious.

If something feels wrong, cancel the arrangement.

4. At pickup

Before accepting equipment, inspect it carefully.

Check:

• Overall board condition.
• Existing cracks, dents, repairs, scratches, soft spots, leaks, or delamination.
• Fins, straps, handle, screws, leash, bag, foil parts, or other accessories.
• Whether anything is missing.
• Whether the equipment matches the listing photos and description.

We strongly recommend taking clear photos or video at pickup. Make sure both users understand the current condition before the equipment is used.

Do not accept or use equipment if it looks unsafe, incomplete, badly damaged, or unsuitable for your ability.

5. Before riding

You are responsible for deciding whether it is safe to ride.

Before using the equipment, check:

• Wind strength and direction.
• Waves, tide, current, and water depth.
• Weather, storms, lightning, visibility, and temperature.
• Beach rules and local restrictions.
• Obstacles, swimmers, boats, rocks, reefs, piers, and other hazards.
• Your own skill level and physical condition.
• Whether the equipment is suitable for the conditions.

Do not use equipment beyond your ability.

Do not use damaged equipment.

Do not ride in unsafe weather, restricted areas, or conditions you cannot manage.

Use appropriate safety gear. Depending on the activity and location, this may include a helmet, impact vest, life vest, leash, wetsuit, safety knife, or other equipment.

If you are not experienced, take lessons from a qualified instructor before using shared equipment.

6. During use

Use the equipment responsibly.

Do not:

• Use equipment while intoxicated or impaired.
• Use equipment beyond your skill level.
• Use equipment in dangerous weather or water conditions.
• Use equipment in prohibited or restricted areas.
• Modify, repair, or alter equipment without the owner’s permission.
• Sub-rent or lend the equipment to someone else unless the owner clearly agrees.
• Use the equipment for commercial instruction, competitions, events, racing, towing, or other special use unless the owner clearly agrees.

Respect local rules, other beach users, and the equipment owner’s conditions.

7. At return

Return the equipment on time and in the agreed condition.

At return:

• Inspect the equipment together if possible.
• Take clear photos or video again.
• Confirm any new damage, missing parts, or issues immediately.
• Return all included accessories.
• Discuss any damage or late return directly and honestly.

If something happened during use, tell the owner clearly. Do not hide damage or missing parts.

8. Payments and deposits

Kitesurf Nation does not currently process payments or deposits.

Users are responsible for arranging payment and deposit terms directly.

Before paying or accepting payment, confirm:

• Amount and currency.
• Payment method.
• Whether a deposit is required.
• When and how a deposit will be returned.
• What happens if the board is damaged, lost, stolen, returned late, or not returned.
• What happens if weather or local conditions make riding unsafe.

Be careful with payments. Do not send money if you are uncomfortable with the arrangement.

9. Important reminders

Kitesurf Nation does not:

• Own listed equipment.
• Inspect or certify listed equipment.
• Verify user identity, skill level, ownership, insurance, or certifications.
• Provide lessons, rescue, supervision, or safety checks.
• Provide weather advice.
• Process payments, deposits, refunds, or damage claims.
• Provide insurance, damage protection, or reimbursement.

Users are responsible for their own safety, judgment, equipment checks, and direct arrangements with each other.

10. Report an issue

If you see a suspicious listing, unsafe content, abusive behavior, or a serious issue involving Kitesurf Nation, contact us at:
